snicker

the sweet scent of snickerdoodles bursts through the oven
arms filling the house as it reaches for me
I set three on my plate, cat chases my tail
glass of milk and thick blanket

how
did
I
stay

two brothers and a tube of icing glue homes together
gingerbread children knock on the doors
how many families will it take, pounds of sugar
I am trapped in my house. there is no exit

how
could
I
leave

a flower blooms unknown
and grass dies in the familiar
it’s harder to see you
when you sit across from me

there
is
no
room

don’t knock
it’s deadbolted
but I do wish you would come in
grab the crowbar
