perpetual

perpetual: n. the seeking of meaning
in places where meaning is lost.

opening an empty bottle
and staring into its hollow neck.

placing myself in your arms
and falling to the floor again. and again

echoing my long-lost love
with reverberations of those behind.

you’re waiting for me there, aren’t you?

hiding behind walls that I pretend
are comforting arms surrounding me.

I used to find comfort in your embrace.

blank eyes shine with purpose
they scoop from the bottom of the bowl.

I stare at the box wondering
how much truth can come in a serving.

it’s been a while since I loved you like that.

isolation: n. the loss of meaning
in places where it once grew free.
