Morning Glories

Here is a lighthearted piece I wrote in response to a prompt about a childhood memory. I thought this appropriate for a post-Father’s Day piece. Happy June!

Morning Glories

California garden:
Bougainvillea, peach tree,
Stepfather’s roses.

Stepfather’s roses,
No match against this purchase:
Morning glory seeds.

Morning glory seeds:
Long tendrils of choking vines
Battle with roses.

Battle with roses:
Morning glories climb the vines
Sounding the alarm.

Sounding the alarm:
The snipping of his scissors.
Stepfather winning.
