An Unexpected Downpour

An Unexpected Downpour

Rain taps an orchestra
atop my van in traffic.

I need to pick up my daughter.
We inch along.

Never hurried,
my deaf son stares.
His mouth hangs open.

Drops stream madly.
The windshield gleams,
rivulets of paisley.

Ordinary gives way,
the rumble of sound a wonder,
its vibratory hum.
